Obama’s Visit was The Beginning of The End For Raila Odinga
I sometimes ask myself what is in politics that even those who have struggled to build exceptionally good reputation in it reaches a point when they reverse their steps towards destruction of the same. In psychological terms , it is vaguely referred to as Fall-back while in literature, it is a distortion of plot flow formula.
It is true that Raila Odinga has a name that he has engineered through difficulty , victimization , torture and even detention. This explains why he has been included the list of Eminent persons in this continent. Raila has been trusted with brokering peace like he did in Cote D’Ivore and setting a landmark in power sharing ideology which was later adopted by countries like Zimbabwe .
For such a person, it will cost him nothing to hang his political boots and sit in a technical bench where he can be best relied on for advises. The routine unsuccessful presidential bids by Raila is fast eroding the trust that the international community has in him. Raila has diverted from being a reformist to a noise maker who aimlessly complain of everything about nothing. Yes, this is the traditional responsibility of the opposition, but can’t we change the norm and cope with modernity?
Raila is one politician who is now behaving like a sick dog, vomiting and consuming the same vomit before it dries up and it is good that even POTUS realized this. The same rotten politicians that he was once asking the US government to issue travel ban against are the same people that constitute his team today. Is he convinced that these people are today justifiably clean and can’t repeat the previous atrocities that they did to Kenyans years ago?
Obama was Raila’s last hope as far as his interest in presidency is concerned and now that Obama has clearly told him what he thinks of the opposition and indirectly his perception of him as Raila, it is now upon him to choose to Lead a ROTTEN path or say it is enough and save his reputation. Obama didn’t bring up the issue of Children in Nyanza four times likely to survive compared to those in Central Province for fun, he was addressing Luos and Raila in particular; it is time to wake up and see the light
