This man Gideon Mwiti.. Merus should be ashamed for voting him

In 2005, I was among the first Journalists to blow the whistle on the Pyramid Schemes being run by a certain guy called Gideon Ireri Mwiti under the banner Kenya Akiba Micro finance.

The guy was so powerful and protected by both the Police and Ministry of Finance officials. After we blew his cover, he went ahead and registered another outfit in the Cooperatives Ministry this time netting even more unsuspecting Investors.

By 2008 he had swindled thousands of people more than 10 billion shillings. Hundreds died out of shock. I did several stories of broken homes and dreams. I remember a certain lady who sold her two houses in Buru Buru and deposited all the money into Mwitis outfit. She later died-probably out of shock.

In the United States, the mastermind of the Pyramid Schemes, a certain David Mcqueen, was sentenced to 30 years in prison. During his sentencing the judge had this to say 

The judge said McQueen took life savings, convinced others to take out mortgages on homes to invest and left many retirees in dire financial straits. An elderly woman who invested $200,000 (Sh 18 Million) could not pay for her husband’s medical care or his funeral.

Instead of Mwiti being locked up in Kamiti, he was celebrated as a Hero by the Imenti people and rewarded with the honorable title of MP.
