CCTV footage of Muchai’s murder: Assailants were in a Ugandan Mercedes Benz

Police officers spent the better part of Sunday morning viewing CCTCV footage from cameras installed just a few meters from the scene where Kabete MP George Muchai was murdered

From the CCTV footage, the vehicle used by the killers may not have been a Toyota Probox after all. It can now be revealed that the vehicle was a Mercedes Benz station wagon with Ugandan registration numbers.Just as Muchai‘s Toyota Fortuner slowed down while getting in to Kenyatta Avenue from Uhuru Highway, the killer’s vehicle emerged behind Muchai’s after going round the Nyayo House round about, rammed it from behind, then blocked it from the front

The CCTV footage then shows that a hooded man stepped out of the Mercedes Benz and immediately opened fire at the four occupants of Muchai’s vehicle, in an operation that took less than three minutes. The assailant then called on two men who were in the Mercedes who walked to Muchai’s car and carried away a briefcase and two pistols.

The gunmen then sped off towards Uhuru Highway.

The team of detectives has also viewed CCTV footage from Galieo club where Muchai and part of his family were before they headed to the CBD where the shooting occured. The footage shows Muchai with his wife, daughter and other family members seated around one table for more than 4 hours. From the club, Muchai walked to the parking and boarded his car with his two body guards and the driver while the family took a different vehicle

It has also emerged that shortly after the shooting incident, anonymous calls were made to the police control room claiming gunmen in a probox had attacked motorists near Chiromo. But on reaching the said scene, police say it was all clear and they could not trace the person who had made the distress call. They believe the call was made intentionally to distract them from Muchai’s murder scene
