Sonko’s bodyguards Disarmed after showing off their AK-47s in public
On Tuesday, Nairobi senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko caused panic at the Lee Funeral home. Those who witnessed his theatrics at the morgue said his arrival depicted a high level police operation. His team of about 8 body guards drawn from the GSU’s VIP protection unit openly brandished AK-47 rifles causing fear and panic among mourners

The same drama is said to have played out at the Langata cemetery where Mike Sonko was attending the burial of mother to former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua. However, Sonkos’s actions did not go unnoticed. Acting Inspector General of police Samuel Arachi has ordered the disarming of Sonko’s security detail.
Samuel Arachi has termed the action by Sonko’s bodyguards as a criminal offence adding that the officers were disarmed on Wednesday evening and disciplined. It is a criminal offence for police officers to brandish their firearms in public while not in uniform unless the situation on the ground is volatile and calls for such action
The Acting IG of police also took issue with licensed gun holders who misuse their firearms by brandishing them in public, saying that such people will also be disarmed.
