One among the three terrorists has been identified as Salim Abubakar Kitonga. He is the man linked to horrendous killings that finally seemed to rattle the country’s leadership in to taking decisive action to stem insecurity. Salim Abubakar Kitonga is a Kenyan citizen whose identification card indicates that he hails from Vihiga county. More details from his ID card indicate that he was registered in Chavakari location which is in Sambatia Division.
The suspects have been flown to Nairobi and are currently being held and interrogated at the anti-terror police head quaters.
The Mandera attacks in 2014 forced civil servants to flee the area, notably teachers who have vowed never to return. The wave of insecurity also saw president Uhuru Kenyatta move to restore confidence to the country’s security by replacing Joseph Ole Lenku with retired Major General Joseph Nkaissery as Interior CS. David Kimaiyo was also forced to resign as Inspector General of police
