9 dead in Kiangima accident- along the Embu- Meru highway.

Nine passengers died on Thursday afternoon in a grisly road accident at Kiangima along the Embu- Meru highway.

The 5 PM New Year’s accident involved a 14 seater (NENO) matatu and a lorry at Kiangima. According to witnesses, the matatu was trying to overtake a boda boda when it collided head on with the oncoming lorry. The matatu was ferrying passengers from Runyenjes while the lorry was heading in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Matatu which was overloaded died on the spot while both the driver and conductor of the lorry that was transporting mangoes towards Meru also died on the spot.

According to the police, both vehicles are said to have been speeding during the collision.

Those injured were admitted at the Embu level five hospital

In a different accident along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway, four people who were returning from new year festivities at the Machakos people’s park died after their vehicle collided with another vehicle. Three of the dead were relatives. The accident happened near the Machakos-Makutano junction along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway
