Prof. Peter M. Mbithi appointed new Nairobi University V.C

The Government has appointed Prof. Peter M. Mbithi as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi.

The appointment is contained in a letter, dated 1st December, 2014, and signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi.

“In exercise of the power conferred to me by section 39(1) of the Universities Act, 2012, I hereby appoint you as the Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi for a period of five years with effect from 6th January, 2015,” the letter reads in part.

Prof. Kaimenyi states that in his capacity as the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mbithi shall report to the council and will be accountable and responsible on matters relating to the mandate of the council.

The letter of appointment has been copied to the two Principal Secretaries in the Ministry of Education, the Chancellor, University of Nairobi, and the Chairman of the Council, University of Nairobi.

Prof. Mbithi will replace Prof George Magoha who has served as the institution’s Vice Chancellor for ten years.
