On Friday, three people were killed after attending Jamhuri day celebrations at the Kainuk chief camp. On that same day, more than 4,000 goats were stolen. This is what triggered the violent protests from the locals. They are saying that Jubilee government has neglected them

Due to to the standoff at Kainuk more than 700 Kenyans, who are mostly women and children, have been forced to seek refuge at the Kainuk police station as they get food and medicine from aid agencies.

The affected passengers have blamed the government for not taking any action more than 48 hours after the protest began. There are reports that the police helicopter which was supposed to help in rescue operations at Kainuk had taken Deputy President William Ruto to Turbo for a thanks giving ceremony.
