The five CORD leaders are Senator Johnstone Muthama, Bonny Khalwale, James Orengo, Junet Mohammed and Elizabeth Ongoro. Ruto wants the court to compel them to apologize and pay damages for linking him to the controversial land.

Through his lawyer Kioko Kilukumi, Ruto has said the remarks made by the five leaders  injured his reputation by referring to him as one of the principal architects of the Karen land grabbing saga. In court papers filed on Monday morning, Ruto maintains that he does not own an inch of land in Karen and that the leaders mentioned him out of malice, spite, hatred and political propaganda.

Ruto said that the remarks have caused him considerable embarrassment and humiliation.  The deputy president is now seeking an injunction restraining the five from publishing or disseminating any statement linking him to the saga, an order compelling them to apologize as well as general damages for defamation.
