Uganda: Museveni to give 6 dairy cows to all rural families in the country
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda has promised to give 6 dairy cows to all rural families in Uganda. The aim is to make Uganda a top milk producer and exporter in Africa.
Museveni said the 6 dairy cows per home will increase milk production in Uganda to 2 million liters per day which will make the country a major dairy products exporter. He made this announcement during the commissioning of a new milk processing plant in Kuruhuara district Western Uganda. The new plant is expect to generate USD 16 million annually in foreign exchange earnings
The president also directed local leaders and veterinary officers to help and sensitize Ugandans to shift from their traditional ways of grazing and adopt new methods of grazing cows on traditional pastures so as to realize maximum milk yields.
