Ruto claims that over 100 Al Shabaab militants were killed by KDF

Deputy President William Ruto delivered another well written government speech on Sunday afternoon. This was seen by many as an effort by the government to save face after its failure to protect the lives of 28 Kenyans who were massacred by Al Shabaab militants on Saturday morning

The deputy president in tow with chief security presonel inlcuding CS for Interior Joseph Ole Lenku and Police IG David Kimaiyo declared boldly that the security forces should be lauded for their quick action. He said this was based on intel gathered two months before the fateful Mandera attack.

Ruto claimed that two succesful operations against the perpetrators were carried out immediately after the Mandera attack and more than 100 of the terrorists were killed and their camps destroyed.

“Our retariatory action left in its trail more than 100 fatalities. It also destroyed 4 technicals and the camp from which these crime was planned. This rapid action is itself a huge victory against regional terrorist networks” claimed ruto during the press conference.

But Kenyans were left confused after the speech, wondering how the security forces found the training camps. Some also wondered why the government did not take any action if it had prior knowledge of the camp’s existance. To add insult to injury, Ruto also stated that the security operation should be considered a victory in the fight against regional terrorism. He did not offer any proof or explaination as to how the operations were carried out.

In any honorable democracy, security chiefs would be seriously reconsidered and called in to question if an attack of such magnitude occured.

Al Shabaab says that no such operations took place and non of its members were killed

After the press conference by Dp William Ruto, Al Shabaab through their Military spokesman, Sheikh AbdiAziz Abu Mus’ab, said that Ruto’s claims were baseless and unfounded, and that non of the terror group’s members was killed.

Full Statement from Al Shabaab:

We have seen the absurd claim by the Kenyan authorities that they killed our Mujahideen who carried out the Mandera attack, a totally baseless and unfounded claim. We confirm that our heroic Mujahideen are safe and didn’t face any attack whatsoever after the successful operation they carried out by the grace of Allah.

Claims like these are only spewed by the Kenyan authorities to cover up their failure to secure the safety of their people and in an attempt to douse the raging anger of the Kenyan public, after the severe blow the Mujahideen delievered to them.
