According to the source, the Nyuki group is active aross Mombasa and Kilifi counties. Though the MRC’s main wing has denied any involvement in Sunday’s incident, analysts warn that a major security breach is in the offing in the coastal region if the government fails to act in time.
The simultaneous attacks on the administration police camp in Kilifi and the Nyali army barracks in Mombasa county lead to the death of 6 attackers and one KDF officer
Simiyu Werunga, a security analyst, has said that the 10 young men might have been sacrificial lambs sent out by the group to test the preparedness and alertness of the military. He also suggested that the group carried out the attack so as to win the trust and financial backing of the Al Shabaab terror outfit and could also be on a mission to arm its members.
On the president’s move to deploy the military to the bandit prone rift valley region, Wesonga said that its a move in the right direction. He also warned that the fact that police officers were caught off guard on several occasions did not auger well for the country’s security.
Meanwhile, MRC leader Omar Mwamnuadzi and 11 others were on Monday freed on bond by a Kwale court after spending more than two weeks in prison on charges of illegal assembly.
