A clip of the undressing act has been the topic of discussion in social media and local TV/Radio stations for more than a week . On Friday, DPP Keriako Tobiko forwarded the video to directorate of criminal investigations for action. On Saturday, the IG of police, David Kimaiyo sent out an appeal asking the victim to report to the nearest police station and record an official statement
The incident has largely been blamed on Embassava SACCO touts whose bus can be seen in the background. But in an effort to disassociate themselves with the incident, the SACCO’s management has strongly condemned the inhumane act and backed calls by the Director of Public Prosecutions to have the incident fully investigated.
Duncan Kioli, a board member of the Embassava SACCO has blamed the infamous act on some notorious layabouts along the routes used by their buses. He added that all their staff members have uniforms and non of them was captured in the footage.
Update: As women stage the My dress My Choice peaceful demo, another video of a woman being stripped by Starbus touts in Nairobi’s CBD has emerged. From the short clip, a middle aged woman is seen running around the star bus stage completely undressed while touts cheer on. She is then rescued by a woman who gives her a khanga to cover herself.
