Lucy Kibaki admitted at the Nairobi Hospital

Former first lady Lucy Kibaki was known for her charisma. She would excite and attract controversy in equal measure. But for past four years, Lucy Muthoni Kibaki has hardly been seen in public; a sharp departure from her previous spirited self.

On Monday, she wakled in to the Nairobi hospital surrounded by her body guards for what sources inside the hospital say was a routine check up. However, she din’t leave the hospital and was admitted at the South Wing of the St. Theresa’s private wing.

Mama Lucy was last seen in public in 2010, when she rose to her feet and danced to Emmy Kosgei’s Taunet Nelel as former president Mwai Kibaki led Kenyans in marking the promulgation of the new constitution. The remainder of Kibaki’s tenure would be marked without Lucy’s public appearances

Kibaki’s administration did not did not help matters by keeping quiet about Lucy’s whereabouts. Even though Kibaki has maintained a busy public schedule, Lucy has not been by his side. Her absence from the public glare has left many concerned about her state of health and well-being. In 2013, there were rumors doing rounds in social media that she was dead.
