Four KCPE candidates arrested for smoking and selling bhang to other children
As curtains fell on the 2014 KCPE on Thursday, four pupils, two from Kiembeni Baptist primary school and two others from Ananda Marga Mission school in Mombasa county found themselves on the wrong side of the law.
According to Bamburi chief, Rubia Maneno, the pupils were found in possession of 4 rolls of bhang which they intended to smoke and sell to other KCSE candidates during the examinations.
Exam supervisors discovered the bhang hidden in the pupils’ pockets while they were being frisked moments before siting their social studies paper on Wednesday. Community policing officers however allowed the pupils to complete the exams before pitching camp at the examination centers for the better part of Thursday awaiting to arrest the suspects
The pupils’ parents are said to have refused to cooperate with the school management to have the children undergo counselling even after they were approached with the proposal.
Cases of drug trafficking and abuse at the coastal region are said to be on the rise with a majority of children, some as old as 10 years, being involved.
