Just like teachers, Doctors told to get out of Northern Kenya IMMEDIATELY..
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union, KMPDU, has through its secretary general Dr. Abidan Mwachi recalled all its members working in Mandera and other Northern Kenya counties.
The union has said that the Northern Kenya region is too volatile and pauses life threatening occupational hazards. While addressing a press conference, Abidan said that doctors will not stay in the terrorist infested areas while the government continues with the chest thumping and saying that it will not embolden terror, while doctors and other professionals continue to die
This comes after a clinical officer was felled by a terrorist bullet during the Saturday morning terror attack on a Nairobi bound bus at Arabiya in Mandera county which also claimed the lives of 27 other travelers.
The doctors urged the government to airlift patients from the affected areas to places where doctors feel safe and comfortable.
If the health workers heed their union’s call, the Northern Kenya region which already faces a shortfall of doctors will loose another 25 health workers, crippling the healthcare delivery system.
This comes just a day after the Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT, made a similar call to its members, a position that was criticized by deputy president William Ruto
Mandera County Governor, Ali Roba through his Twitter account called on KNUT to reconsider its decision saying that his county is already suffering an acute shortage of teachers.
On Saturday, Al Shaabab hijacked a Nairobi bound bus and executed 28 people, mainly teachers and health workers in an attack that shocked the entire country.
