Issac Hassan says he wont resign over corruption allegations

Nearly two years after 2013 general elections, IEBC Chairman Issac Hassan has said that he is not intimidated by an opposition that will never accept defeat. Hassan said this on Tuesday after Raila Odinga and his CORD team issued a statement demanding that he be sacked and arrested due to corruption allegations.

The 2013 elections drama deepened Tuesday after two local newspaper reprots quoting a court session claimed a British company, Smith and Ouzman paid the then IIEC officials Sh 40 Million as bribes to get the lucrative ballot papers printing contract. CORD’s fury towards IEBC was further sparked by allegations that IEBC printed extra ballot papers for Jubilee strongholds.

Issac Hassan said that CORD should stop engaging in diversionary tactics and accept they lost the poll. Raila claimed that IEBC oversaw the publication of extra ballot papers which were sent to Kenya through Geneva from where they were received by the NIS. He added that the ballot papers were later taken to Kenyatta University where they were intercepted by some CORD officials

Hassan, current Energy CS Davis Chirchir and former registrar of Judiciary Gladys Boss Shollei are mong those CORD wants to be held accountable. On Tuesday, Hassan sued two local Newspapers and added that IEBC has no intention of being enjoined in the case daring the UK prosecutor to come to Kenya and conduct investigations.

IEBC has further said that the local agent referred in the two newspapers for receiving bribes on behalf of IEBC, Trevy James Oyombra, is fictitious and does not exist. Some sources at the Commission said that CORD’s renewed interest in IEBC is to have a say in the CEO slot which currently has 9 candidates contesting
