CAF has been holding meetings all week to discuss the fate of the 2015 AFCON tournament. Chairman of CAF Issa Hayatou made it clear that the tournament will not be postponed under any circumstances. He said postponing the event will negatively affect Africa’s credibility.

Equatorial Guinea will host the AFCON tournament that kicks off on the 17th of January until February 8th with four cities, Mongomo, Ebebiyin, Malabo and Bata hosting the visiting teams. The Equatorial Guinea football team, Nzalang Nacional, which was disqualified from the 2015 AFCON qualifiers for fielding an ineligible player has been allowed to participate in the tournament as the new host nation.

The Ebola epidemic is wrecking havoc in the football community as well as West Africa. CAF refused to postpone or cancel the AFCON tournament due to financial losses.

Equatorial Guinea will now need to work quickly to get prepared for the January 2015 kick off
