Angry Mukurweini farmers burn down Kaguyu Coffee Factory
Angry farmers in Mukurweini, Nyeri county have burnt down Kaguyu coffee factory. The irate farmers were protesting an order given for them to deliver coffee to the Sagana coffee mills in line with Nyeri county’s initiative.
The farmers raided Kaguyu coffee factory on Friday afternoon and set the store on fire before escaping to nearby thickets. The factory manager John Maina said he suspected a former official of the society was behind the incident saying he had been seen moving around telling farmers that their coffee had been stolen
Senior security personnel led by Mukurweini OCPD Beatrice Kimoning visited the factory and assured farmers that the police were investigating the incident. The fire destroyed all files of the society, a move which many of the farmers claim was an effort to cover up mismanagement of millions of farmers funds
