The little 3 year old girl who was raped by her uncles in Githima Village, Mathira East, Nyeri County
The two men took turns and defiled the little girl for more than three hours in the name of disciplining their sister in law- the girl’s mother, who parted ways with their brother after her husband of seven years married another woman from his tribe.
The young woman had been forced to leave her children behind in the homestead. She headed to Kisiii to her parents.
A month later, she went back to Nyeri to check on her children, and booked a bus from Kisii on Sunday. Early Monday morning, she was in Nairobi, then she boarded a matatu and headed straight to Mathira. On arrival, she found the door to her former home locked and there was loud music inside
When she knocked the door, one of the brothers came out wearing boxer shorts and a vest and told her that she can not go inside. After staying outside for more than 4 hours, she knocked on the window and started calling on her daughter’s name. On hearing her mother’s voice, the girl talked with a weak voice andsaid that her two uncles had defiled her “Mom, uncle Joshua na uncle Sam wamenipiga na kunifanyia poopoo” said the girl
The mother pushed the window open and saw her daughter laying on the bed with blood stained bedsheets and her eyes swollen. That’s when she ran and reported the incident to a nearby police station. The child was picked in an ambulance and taken to the hospital where she was immediately rushed to the theater.
She is now in stable condition.
The two men are still at large and according to Mathira OCPD John Murugu, a manhunt for the suspects has been launched.
This incident paints a picture of the rising rape cases in Kenya. According to statistica from the Kenya police, the annual total number of rape cases rose by 33% from 2007 to 2013.
