In a sworn affidavit, investigating officer Hamisi revealed that Kenya’s anti narcotics unit intercepted 98 packets of heroin in Nairobi last week on Friday in a joint operation with America’s Drug Enforcement Agency. The affidavit stated that the suspects are liable to charges of conspiracy to traffic narcotic drugs in to the United States of America
The consignment is believed to have been headed to the US market. The four are believed to be part of a transnational organized crime syndicate operating between Kenya and the US.
The US government has now requested for the extradition of the four suspects to face charges of trafficking narcotic drugs.
Baktash akasha and Ibrahim Akasha are sons of the notorious drug lord Ibrahim Akasha while the other two suspects are of Indian nationality. The late Akasha was show dead in Amsterdam in the year 2000 in what police described as “drug deal gone sour”
The arrest of the four suspected drug barons has sparked some bold chest thumping from the government. Mombasa County Commander, Robert Kitur has said that the government is now going for the “big fish” in the drug world and Kenyans should expect to see some major arrests in coming days. But in a country where some of the most prominent politicians and business men are linked to the drug trade, it will be interesting to see if any big fish will be arrested.
