Withdrawal motion against Makueni Governor Kibutha Kibwana put on hold after Kalonzo’s intervention

The withdrawal motion seeking to impeach Makueni Governor, Prof Kibutha Kibwana has been put on hold. This follows intense lobbying by leaders from the Ukambani region to bring to an end the bitter wrangles that were threatening to have the Makueni county government dissolved

The infighting in Makueni saw at least three governors from neighboring counties come together to show solidarity with their embattled colleague Prof Kibutha Kibwana. The Makueni Governor was however conspicuously absent at the meeting held at the Machakos County head quaters convened by area governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua and Dr. Julius Malombe of Kitui County. Kibutha Kibwana was said to be consulting his lawyers

It will be interesting to find out whether the governors who were present at the meeting will be able to bring the two feuding parties together, bearing in mind that Governor Kibutha Kibwana himself is on a signature collection spree that will see the Makueni county dissolved.

Wiper leader Kalonzo attempting to bring some order in the broken county leadership and is set to chair some re-conciliatory  meetings in Makueni on Thursday morning.

The governors from neighboring counties, who are under the Lower Eastern Governors Forum, have said that they will be left with no option but to call for the dissolution of the county government if reconciliation fails.

Governor Kibutha Kibwana and the council of Governors have already voiced their support for the dissolution of the county government. He has said that its becoming very hard to govern Makueni county, a sentiment that is shared by locals from the county who have already started collecting signatures to achieve the requisite 20% threshold of the 300,000 registered voters – about 60,000 signatures
