The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon and World Bank president Jim Yong Kim set to visit Kenya

The two global leaders will be jetting in to the country to attend a high level joint meeting of development organizations that will discuss peace, stability and economic development in the horn of Africa region.

The horn of African region covers 8 African countries which include Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Southern Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. The two will be joined by leaders of global and regional institutions such as the African Union Commission, The European Union, Africa Development Bank, The Islamic Development Bank Group and the Inter Governmental Agency for Development IGAD

Among the key announcements expected to be made at the conference is a pledge to extend at least $ 8 Billion (Sh 715 Billion) in financial assistance for countries in the region over the next few years. In a statement, the World Bank has announced that  it has already committed USD 1.8 Billion (Sh 160 Billion) to support programs that will boost economic growth and opportunities, reduce poverty and spur business activities in the horn of Africa.

The money will specifically go in to development of stronger ICT and broadband connectivity, roads, oil and gas pipe lines as well as expansion of universities and other tertiary education institutions.

The EU on the other hand says it has committed Sh 340 Billion in development support to this region between 2014-2020
