Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Nurses issue strike notice
Nurses at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldroret have issued a strike notice. The nurses through their Uasin Gishu branch of the Kenya National Union of Nurses have said that the strike has been prompted by the government’s inability to meet the hospital’s Sh 5 Billion budgetary allocation sice July leading to a cash flow crisis
Their officials led by the acting hospital’s branch secretary Mr. Abdallah Soita sais the delay has plunged the hospital in to a serious financial crisis. The nurses further said that the hospital has not been able to remit pension deductions recovered from employees.
The hospital’s nurses chairman Mr. Kenneth Orangi warned patients and their relatives to brace themselves for difficult times if the strike goes ahead next week. He said that the Uasin Gishu county healthcare system has collapsed and added that Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital is the only institution that residents of Uasin Gishu are relying on, which is now being ran down.
However, the hospital’s director Dr. John Kibosya said that his management team is sorting out the issue to prevent the nurses from going on strike
