Makueni Governor Prof. Kibutha Kibwana impeached
The governor for Mkueni County, Prof. Kibutha Kibwana has been impeached. This comes after many days of wrangles that have brought all the activities in Makueni to a stand still

Makueni Governor Prof. Kibutha Kibwana finally impeached
35 members of the Makueni County Assembly voted for Prof. Kibutha Kibwana’s impeachment while 10 others voted in his favor. This effectively makes Kibwana the third governor to be impeached by MCAs. The MCAs said that the governors had to go, over what they termed as lack of accountability and misappropriation of funds. 4 other members of the Makueni county government were also impeached
The MCAs said that Sh 87 million that was meant to buy seedlings for the whole county can not be accounted for. Kibutha Kibwana couldn’t account for another Sh 40 million which was meant for the emergency fund. The governor however refuted the claims and said that the Makueni county government should be suspended so that fresh elections can be held after 90 days.
The strained relationship between governor Kibwana and Makueni MCAs reached a boiling point on 24th of September when ugly chaos erupted outside the Makueni county assembly offices between Kibwana’s supporters and MCAs, which resulted in 5 people being shot.
This happened after a meeting that was meant to discuss the governor’s impeachment for alleged corruption. A task force was later formed to iron out the differences between Kibwana and the MCAs but from this latest development, the task force seems to have failed miserably.
On his side, Prof. Kibwana insists he will not move from his office. “If the people of Makueni told me to resign, and say that they don’t have confidence in me, I would resign immediately.” Said the governor after hearing of the impeachment news
