Government launches the Diaspora Web Portal

Kenyans in the Diaspora web Portal: Kenyans in the diaspora can now engage the government as well as the private sector for jobs and investment opportunities locally. This follows the launch of a website that seeks to engage Kenyans living abroad in to the country’s development agenda

The diaspora web portal, diasporaportal.eurocom.co.ke, will also help Kenyans living abroad register themselves with Kenya’s foreign missions. The website will be critical in addressing the plight of Kenyans who may be in distress abroad as has been the case in recent days.

The launch of the diaspora web portal took place alongside the launch of a five year strategic plan by the ministry of foreign affairs and international trade. Under the plan, the ministry of foreign affairs will now be structured in to four directorates which include a new foreign service institute. Amb. Amina Mohamed, CS Foreign affairs said the institute will help Kenyans achieve cutting edge training in diplomacy, mediation, negotiations and foreign languages

During the launch of the strategic plan, the Foreign affairs CS announced the appointment of Dr. Josephine Ojiambo as the newly appointed deputy secretary general of the commonwealth secretariat. Prior to her appointment, Dr Ojiambo served at the United Nations Population Fund as the as the chief of the executive board and external relations. Ojiambo will oversee the political, human rights, rule of law and communications docket
