Court withdraws assault charges against Lengo Karisa Mdzomba
A court in Kwale County has finally withdrawn assault charges against Lengo Karisa Mdzomba, the man who thrashed Raila Odinga thoroughly with a cane. He also canned the Kwale county Governor, Salim Mvurya.
Lengo had been slapped with two separate charges of assaulting CORD leader Raila Odinga and Governor Mvurya who had earlier indicated that they had forgiven him. However, the prosecution decided to press a third charge of “disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace”sighting the recent rise in political thuggery and hooliganism in Kenya.
Lengo Karisa Mdzomba denied the charge of creating disturbance and his defense pleaded for a lenient bail arguing that he needed to undergo a medical examination.
Kwale resident magistrate Christine Njagi released him on a cash bail of Sh 2,500 and set the next hearing for the 6th of December. Upon release, Lengo expressed his resourcefulness to Raila Odinga and Salima Mvurya and said that he was not himselfe during the whole incident. His brother also echoed the same sentiments and begged for forgiveness from the two leaders and the CORD coalition.
Lengo Mdzomba was caught on camera unleashing swift canes to the two leaders at a rally in Kinango on the 29th of September. He however maintains that he was not in his right senses at the time.
