Catholic Bishops say that the goverment is using tetenus vaccine as birth control method
Catholic Bishops have claimed that the government should come out and clear the air regarding tetenus vaccines that are being administered to women aged between 14-49 years of age.
A planned tetenus vaccination campaign set for next week in Bungoma county is not sitting well with Catholic Bishops who are now accusing the ministry of health of concealing the real intention of the drive.
“Is there a tetenus crisis in Kenya? If there is, why has it not been declared so even by the minister? Why does the campaign target women, and especially those between 14- 49 years?” asked Bishop Paul Kariuki of Embu during a press conference. He also wondered why the campaign has left out young girls, boys and men.
According to the Bishops, the vaccination could be a ploy by the ministry of health to drive a hidden agenda at the expense of the target population.
Another Bishop, Joseph Mbatia, said that tetenus vaccines have been used as a birth control method. He said that the tetenus vaccination program bears the hallmarks of the vaccinations that were carried out in the Philippines, Mexico and Nicaragua which were meant to control population
The bishops have vowed that they wont allow the exercise to take place in the area untill the ministry of health explains the real motive behind the exercise.
Bishop Kariuki urged Bungoma residents not to participate in the vaccination campaign and not to allow themselves be influenced without having clear information.
